To renew pride, restore confidence, promote reinvestment
and revitalize neighborhoods in the Cities and Townships of Batavia,
Geneva and St. Charles through the efforts of local residents
acting in concert with financial institutions, corporate enterprise
and the business community, foundations and local government.
Mid-Valley Neighborhood Improvement Association, Inc.
(MVNIA) is committed to enhancing the image and economic vitality
of the cities and townships of Batavia, Geneva, and St. Charles
by providing resources to rehabilitate, maintain, and preserve
our neighborhoods.
Because we believe that pride in one’s home contributes
to a strong neighborhood and that strong neighborhoods are
the foundations of strong communities, MVNIA works to:
- provide financial resources to conserve and improve the
quality, livability and value of residential housing
- promote the purchase and rehabilitation of housing
- provide housing-related information
- provide resources for low-cost, affordable building materials
for homeowners
- develop, promote and sponsor neighborhood improvement
activities.
These objectives are pursued by MVNIA in cooperation with
the cities and townships of Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles,
Kane County, local financial institutions, businesses and, most
importantly, residents.
MVNIA was first incorporated as Neighborhood Improvement Association (NIA)
of St. Charles Township, Inc. under the laws of the State of Illinois on
June 2, 1992 and is a qualified 501(c)3 charitable organization.
The incorporation of NIA was the result of research that a
steering committee initiated in 1991. The group's exploration
of successful strategies for community investment led to Neighborhood
Housing Services (NHS), a nationwide network of community development
organizations. NHS provided the successful model the committee
sought and Fox Valley area NHS affiliates shared knowledge
and experience to help develop the new organization’s
policies and loan program.
In 1997, after meeting with members of Batavia’s banking
community, NIA began to explore the possibility of expanding
its services to Batavia and Geneva. In 1999, NIA officially
became Mid-Valley Neighborhood Improvement Association, Inc.
(MVNIA) serving the cities and townships of Batavia, Geneva,
and St. Charles.
On September 24, 2005, MVNIA opened ReUseIt Center in Batavia
with the hopes that this new program's revenues would help support
the overall mission of MVNIA. ReUseIt Center unfortunately had to close the doors in October of 2007.
MVNIA’s revenue sources are derived from municipal contract service fees for services provided
to the City of St. Charles, the City of Batavia, and other communities in the
service area; annual contributions made by area financial institutions; project specific grants and fund-raiser
proceeds.
